The 18th Kunstadt Open Tennis Tournament has started. Increasingly, our tournaments attract elite Canadian tennis players. We were lucky to get Nicolas Vincent to participate. Nic is the # 1 player at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville tennis team in NCAA Division 1. Zhenia Kondratovsky, our No. 2 seed is a past junior champion of Russia. He has played in every Kunstadt Open Tournament. He is the head teaching pro at Rideau Tennis Club. Our 3-rd seeded player is James Ferguson, the teaching pro at West Ottawa Tennis Club and current city Over 35 champion. Jeremy Gibbens-Schneider, the 4-th seed and one of the top juniors in the region, has just signed with the tennis team at University of Maryland, Baltimore County. Watch for Jon Landon, an ex-Argonauts football player. If you’re lucky, you may see his Grey Cup ring. He is playing tonight at 5 pm at the Glen Cairn Tennis Club.

We are happy to announce that Rogers Television will be on hand for the men’s and ladies’ finals. Men’s champion will receive $ 1000 and ladies’ champion $ 500. In keeping with our great tradition, there will be great entertainment by Marc Charron and a barbecue on Saturday night.
