Description
The 2027 Stockli Montero AX is the ski for someone who loves carving but doesn't necessarily want to make GS turns all day long.
Sitting between the AS and AR in the Montero lineup, the AX blends quickness, precision, and stability better than just about any ski we've been on. At 80 mm underfoot, it feels noticeably quicker edge-to-edge than the AR while still delivering the smooth, planted ride that makes Stockli skis so addictive.
The AX is all about turn shape. If you're the type of skier who likes making a lot of turns, changing direction frequently, and skiing with a more energetic style, this ski makes a lot of sense. It comes across as more nimble and responsive than the AR, while still maintaining the confidence and composure that define the Montero family.
What stands out most is how easy the ski is to ski. Turn initiation is effortless, the tails release predictably, and the ski feels incredibly balanced underfoot. It's happy making shorter turns, medium turns, and just about anything in between. Unlike the AR, which really prefers larger turns and more speed, the AX feels comfortable over a much wider range of speeds and turn shapes.
That doesn't mean it lacks performance. Far from it. The AX still delivers exceptional edge grip, tremendous stability, and the smooth, vibration-free ride that Stockli is known for. It just packages that performance in a ski that's a little more playful and a little less demanding.
Choosing between the AX and AR is pretty simple. If you like to stand on the edge, carry speed, and make larger GS-style turns, buy the AR. If you prefer a quicker, more nimble ski that encourages you to make more turns throughout the day, buy the AX.
For many skiers, the AX ends up being the sweet spot in the Montero lineup. It's smooth, energetic, confidence-inspiring, and simply a blast to ski.

I'd toppled over this morning and, well into my ride, realized I'd knocked my front brake cable out of its housing. I brought it into the Bank and Heron location and met Eric. He mended the brake, then went on to clean my very dirty chain, adjusted my rear brake and gear mechanisms and sold me some chain cleaning fluid - all in good humour and in short order. I flew home on my now very happy bicycle. THANKS, ERIC!
